Abstract

Jalan Jendral Sudirman is a busy road in Kupang City because there are various activities, office centers, city centers and trade. This causes the mobility of travel to these roads to be high so that it can trigger traffic problems. Activities like this will cause air pollution on the Jalan Jendral Sudirman. The pollution released by vehicles has a negative impact on human health because it contains pollutants in the form of highly toxic gases such as carbon monoxide (CO). This compound binds to hemoglobin (Hb) which functions to deliver fresh oxygen throughout the body, causing the function of Hb to carry oxygen throughout the body to be disrupted. The reduced supply of oxygen throughout the body will make shortness of breath and can cause death, if not immediately get fresh air again. When CO gas levels in the blood increase to 5%, a person will experience visual disturbances (Mukono, 1997). Thus, it can be concluded that one of the factors that trigger traffic accidents in the Kuanino corridor (Jl. Jend. Sudirman) is the potential for visual and respiratory problems for drivers due to high levels of CO.
