Abstract
This study is entitled “USING GUIDED QUESTIONS INIMPROVINGTHE ABILITY IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTSOF SMAN 1 KUPANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016”. It was conducted in order to answer the following questions: (1) Is guided questions effective in improving the writing ability of the Tenth Grade students of SMAN 1 Kupang in academic year 2015/2016?(2)To what extent is the improvement of writing ability of the Tenth Grade Students in SMAN 1 Kupang in academic year 2015/2016 after being taught using guided questions technique?(3)What are the areas of difficulties faced by the students in writing recount text?The objectives of the study are as follows: (1) To know the effectiveness of guided question in improving the writing ability of the Tenth Grade Students in SMAN 1 Kupang in academic year 2015/2016. (2) To find out the degree of writing ability of recount text of the Tenth Grade Students in SMAN 1 Kupang in Academic Year 2015/2016. (3) To find out the area of difficulties faced by the students in writing recount text. This study is limited in three aspects of writing as proposed by John Anderson in terms of Grammar, Vocabulary and Form. This study used a Classroom Action Research was done based on Kemis and Mc. Taggart‟s design. The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative. The subject of the study was the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Kupang especially grade X D. There were 20 students as the sample from 51 students. In collecting the data, the writer gave pre-test, post-test I and II. The result of the research shows that: (1) The guided questions were effective in improving the ability in writing recount text of the tenth grade students. (2) The students‟ average score in pre-test was 6.9 and it increased to 9.45 in post-test I. While in post-test II, the average score also increased to 10.45. (3) The difficulties faced by the students‟ are how to organize the words into sentences, lack of tenses and vocabulary. Based on the result of this study, the writer would like to offer some suggestions as follows: (1) The English Teachers should use interesting ways or strategies in writing and apply guided questions technique to help students in writing. (2) The students should stimulate themselves to learn English especially writing by practicing more writing in school or home.
