Abstract
This study is entitled A Study on the Prediscourse of Koda Kirin Daha Kebarek Practiced in Eastern Adonara of East Flores Regency. It is intended to investigate discourse scenarios, kinds of metaphors, and the cultural imagery that bases the the discourse scenarios and metaphors. The result of the study is useful for both the academic world and the practical life of the society, especially the native speakers of Lamaholot Language in East Adonara of East Flores Regency. To inspire of the study, a number of previous related studies were reviewed. To easily understand, direct, and limit the discussion of the study, a number of basic concepts were defined. To analyze the data, the theory of Cultural Linguistics focusing on the discourse scenarios and metaphors was applied. The study was conducted in Karing Lamalouk village, East Adonara Sub district, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. It is a qualitative study. The data were obtained through observation and the record of the expressions used as a prestep to Koda Kirin Daha Kebarek discourse, interview, and note taking. For this reason, a number of questions were prepared. The data obtained were analyzed through steps of selection, listing, translation, and interpretation. The result of the data analysis is informally described or verbally described. In line with the problem statement, there found discourse scenarios and kinds of metaphors used in the prediscourse of Koda Kirin Daha Kebarek practiced in East Adonara of East Flores Regency. It is spoken by the spokesman of male to the spokesman of the female. The metaphors include orientational metaphor, structural metaphor, and ontological metaphor. It is also found the cultural imagery of the people of Eastern Adonara. The spokesman of the male appreciates the spokesman of the female. It also implies that the male appreciate the female. It also implies that the bridegroom appreciate the bride. In accordance with the significance and the finding of the study some suggestions are proposed. (1) The experts of linguistic and other related subject are hoped to do continuing study or similar study to confirm and extend the linguistic evidence in Lamaholot Language or in other local languages. (2) Other researchers are suggested to conduct the same study to find out the lack of this study and make it better. (3) The speakers of Lamaholot Language are suggested to keep speaking Lamaholot Language because it expresses certain cultural imagery of Lamaholot Language speakers.
