Abstract

The underlying question in this research is: how is the mathematical representation profile high school students in solving problems of statistics in terms of mathematical abilities in class XI SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang. The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of a mathematical representation of high school students in solving problems in terms of ability matematika.Jenis statistical research is descriptive qualitative techniques of data collection is done by giving the task of solving the problem (TPM) and then immediately do interviews about the work of the student. In this study used 3 students of different mathematical ability, mathematical representations assessment based on an assessment completed by the TPM are subject to review three indicators namely the representation of visual representations, symbolic and verbal. Data analysis in this research is done by reducing the data, presenting data, and making inferences. The results showed that the ability of a mathematical representation of high school students in solving problems of statistics in terms of math skills are as follows: first the subject of high powered using a representation of the tables and in determining the average subject only able to use one way is a direct way and also the subject is able to meet all three indicators representation ie visual representations, both verbal simbolik.and, subjects were capable of being, using a representation of the tables and in determining the average of the subjects were able to use two ways: direct ways and means temporary flats. and the subject is able to meet all three indicators, namely the representation of visual representations, symbolic and verbal. Third, subjects were less capable in solving the average / mean using a representation of the table and in determining the subjects averaging only able to use one way is a direct way. And also subjects did not meet in the achievement of the symbolic representation indicator and verbal Based on these results, it is expected that teachers of mathematics SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang should be able to apply the learning multi representation in dispute resolution statistics, in order to improve students' ability of alternative solutions in solving the problem.
