Abstract
The main problem in this research is how the profile of cognitive conflict experienced by high school’s students in completing the task to solve mathematical problems. The aim of this study is to describe the profile of cognitive conflict of Senior High School students that have high, medium, and low matematic skill to solve mathematical problems. This research is descriptive qualitative. This research was have done at the SMAK Sint Karolus Kupang and the subjects of the study were students of class X. In this research, there is only one type of data that is data of result of written test (TPM) and data from result of inteview the research subjects. The results showed that students with high skills have incompatibility of knowledge concept between the concepts of linear equations in two variables with a system of linear equations in two variables, a incompatibility of knowledge in make a mathematical model, incompatibility of knowledge in practice substitution method, and incompatibility of knowledge in revising their mathematical work. Students with medium skill have incompatibility of knowledge concept between concepts of linear equations in two variables with system of linear equations in two variables, incompatibility of knowledge concepts in make a mathematical model, incompatibility of knowledge concepts in do mathematical operations, and incompatibility of knowledge in revising their mathematical work. whereas the students with low skill have incompatibility of knowledge concepts between the concepts of linear equations in two variables with a system of linear equations in two variables, incompatibility of knowledge in make a mathematical model, incompatibility of knowledge in implementing strategies completion and incompatibility in performing mathematical operations, and alaso incompatibility of knowledge in revising their mathematical work. Based on these results, the mathematics teachers of SMAK Sint Karolus Kupang expected to more engage students in learning activities in the classroom, and multiplying the exercises test especially nonroutine tests, so students can be used their ability and also can make their knowledge be solid.
