Abstract

It was conducted to answer the following questions: (1)Whatare the grammatical errors made by the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint. Carolus Kupang in writing descriptive text? (2) Whattype of grammatical errors made by the eleventh grade students of SMA Katolik Sint. Carolus Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writting descriptive text?(3) What are the most common grammatical error committed by the eleventh grade students of SMA Katolik Sint. Carolus Kupang in the year 2018/2019 in writing descriptive text? Based on theproblems stated above, the objectives of the study were as follows: (1) to find out the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint. Carolus Kupang, (2) to find out the most common grammatical errors committed by the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint. Kupang. (3) To find out the most common grammatical error committed by the eleventh grade students of SMA Katolik Sint. Carolus Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writing a descriptive text. The total number of the eleventh grade studentsof SMAK Sint.Kupang was 97students. The subjectsof this study are 20 students of the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint. Kupang, especially science class. and the instrument used was writing task. The studentschoose one of folloing topics and make a descriptive text and the writing should be written in 150 word or more. The topics are as follow!. My friend, my pet, my house and my favorite actor or actress. The time allocation was 60 minutes. The taxonomy used by the writer in analyzing the data was surface strategy taxonomy, consistingof omission,addition, misordering and misformation. The result of the analysis showed that. 1.The errors committed by the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint.Carolus Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 were omission (24.24%), addition (15.15%), misformation (13.63%), and misordering (46.96%). The total number of error was 66.2. The most frequent error was omission. Based on the resultof this study, the following was the suggestions for the teacher: the teacher should teach the students on how to write a good text especially in writing descriptive text and give the students chance to learn more about good text and focuson grammar especially tenses and subject verba greement.
