Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the significant influence of problem-based learning models on students' problem-solving skills in the light matter and optical devices. This research was conducted at the UPTD SMP Negeri 9 Kupang for the 2021/2022 Academic Year. The design of this study used One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The samples used in this study were taken with purporsive sampling techniques, namely 29 students of class VIIIA. The tools and instruments used in this study are in the form of syllabuses, learning implementation plans, teaching materials, student worksheets, lattices of problem-solving questions, and problem-solving skills test questions in the form of descriptions. The data analysis techniques in this study are descriptive analysis to describe problem-solving skills and statistical tests using paired t-tests to test hypotheses. The results showed that the problem-based learning (PBL) model affects students' problem-solving skills in light-matter and optical devices. This is reviewed from the descriptive test results, the average percentage of problem-solving skill indicators in the pretest is 28% with a very low category and the average post-test percentage is 69% with a medium category. The results of statistical testing showed that the significant value of 0.00 was less than 0.05 so Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected which showed that there was an influence of the PBL model on the problem-solving skills of learners on the light-matter and optical devices.
