Abstract

This thesis is entitled “A Study on EFL Learners' Reading Comprehension Ability”. This study was done to answer the following questions (1) 1. Are the eighth-grade students of SMPK Adisucipto Penfui Kupang read narrative text and to comprehend? (2). What is the reading ability level of the eighth-grade students of SMPK Adisucipto Penfui Kupang? Based on the statement above, the objectives of this research are: (1) To find out whether or not the eighth-grade students of SMPK Adisucipto Penfui Kupang read narrative text and to comprehend. (2) To find out the reading ability level of the eighth-grade students of SMPK Adisucipto Penfui Kupang.This study used 30 students of class V111 SMPK Adisucipto Penfui Kupang. In the collection the author uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection instrument uses narrative text readings with 40 multiple choice questions in which there are literal questions and inferential questions. The students were given the opportunity to take the test and they had obtained a good score. (1) The eighth-grade students of SMPK Adisucipto Penfui Kupang are able to read and comprehend narrative texts (2). The level of reading ability of grade VIII students of SMPK Adisucipto Penfui Kupang is good with the score 76,5. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Ability
