Abstract

Acid-base titration is the determination of the concentration (concentration) of an acid or base solution with a base or acid solution whose concentration is known through volume measurement. In a titration, an indicator is used to determine the end point of the titration. In this study, the use of purple sweet potato tuber extract as an indicator in acid-base titration was studied. The purple sweet potato tuber samples used were fresh tubers. To extract purple sweet potato tuber pigment, 95% medical grade ethanol and 96% analytical grade ethanol were used as solvents. The extracts obtained were used as indicators in acid-base titrations. The aims of this study were 1) Phytochemical content of purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) tuber extract. 2) The precision of using purple sweet potato tuber extract (Ipomoea batatas L.) as a titration indicator for strong acid-strong base, strong acid-weak base, weak acidstrong base and weak acid-weak base. 3) The accuracy of using purple sweet potato tuber extract (Ipomoea batatas L.) as a titration indicator for strong acid-strong base, strong acid-weak base, weak acid-strong base and weak acid-weak base. 4) Cost efficiency of using extract of purple sweet potato tuber (Ipomoea batatas L.) compared to phenolphthalein.
