Abstract

This research aims to analyze the ontogenic barriers of students in solving story problems with rectangular topics. The indicators of ontogenic barriers in this study are psychological ontogenic barriers, instrumental ontogenic barriers, and conceptual ontogenic barriers. This type of research uses a qualitative approach with the Didactic Design Research method. This research was conducted at UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Kupang for the academic year 2021/2022. The instrument used in this research was a description test, interviews and documentation for class VII-K students at UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Kupang. The subjects in this study were 3 students of class VII-K at UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Kupang. The instrument used in this research was a description test question of 2 questions and after that an interview was conducted with each subject. Interviews were conducted to determine student barriers in solving mathematical problems on rectangular material. The results of the analysis show that there are ontogenic obstacles experienced by the three subjects. These ontogenic barriers can be in the form of students' inability to infer information from a given concept, students' inability to complete the problem completely, students make mistakes in calculating the value of a arithmetic operation, or students' disinterest in rectangular material.
