Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the errors made by students in drawing graphs of quadratic functions. This research was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Kupang Barat. The subjects in this study were 6 students of class X which were divided into three categories, namely high ability, medium ability, and low ability. Data collection techniques in this study used test and interview techniques. This study uses triangulation techniques, namely by means of data obtained from data collection using test and interview techniques. This study uses error analysis, namely errors in understanding the meaning of the problem, errors in determining the point of intersection, errors in determining the axis of symmetry, errors in determining the coordinates of the turning point, errors in determining the maximum and minimum values, and errors in drawing graphs of quadratic functions. The analysis technique is carried out by correcting the work of the research subject in order to analyze the mistakes made by students, analyzing the results of student interviews to see the causes of errors made by students and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that in the first indicator, namely errors in interpreting the questions, the six students knew what was asked in the questions and understood the meaning of the questions according to their understanding. In the second indicator, namely the error indicator in determining the intersection point, the six subjects still did not correctly determine the cut point because they followed the example written on the blackboard while the questions were different. In indicators, namely indicators of error in determining the axis of symmetry, high-ability subjects use the correct formula and find the right results, while moderate and low-ability subjects use the correct formula but in rare cases they add a negative sign so that the results they get are less. appropriate. The fourth indicator is an indicator of error in determining the coordinates of the turning point, the six subjects used a formula that was not in accordance with the order of the questions so that the results they obtained were not correct. The fifth indicator is an error indicator in drawing a graph of a quadratic function, the subject is high-skilled and is drawing the graph correctly, namely the parabola opens downwards with the right cut point, while the low-ability subject draws the parabola correctly, which opens downwards but does not determine where the point is. cut it. The last indicator is an indicator of error in determining the optimum and minimum values, high-ability subjects and currently working on the test questions use an incorrect formula so that the results are also incorrect, while low-ability subjects just rewrite the questions.
