Abstract

This research is a qualitative research that aims to describe the thinking process of junior hingh school students in solving story problems based on mathematical ability. The subjects of this research consisted of six students, namely two students who had higt mathematical ability namely ( SKT-1) and ( SKT-2), Tho students with moderate mathematical ability namely ( SKS-1) and (SKS-2), and two students whit moderate mathematical ability namely ( SKR-1) and (SKR-2). The subjectsof this research were selected according to the results of discussions whit mathematical teachers and researchers. Colecting date in the form written test results, interview results and observations based on mathematical thinking processes. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Checking data using time triangulation. The results of data exporsure and analysis concluded that (1) students with high mathematical ability (SKT-1) and ( SKT-2) were able to complete problems solving tests and fulfill the three thingking process indicators, namely forming understanding, forming understanding, forming opinions and drawing conclusions.(2) students with moderate mathematical ability (SKS-1) and ( SKS-2) only meet two indicators, namely forming understanding and forming opinions.(3) students whit low mathematical ability (SKR-1) are able meet two indicators namely forming understanding and forming opinions.(4) students whit low mathematical ability (SKR-2) are one indicator namely forming understanding.
