Abstract

This study is entitled “GRAMMATICAL ERRORS ANALYSIS IN RECOUNT TEXT WRITTEN BY THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPK. STA. FAMILIA KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2015/2016”. It was conducted in order to answer the following questions: (1) What are the types of grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK. Sta. Familia Kupang in writing recount text? (2) What are the most common types of grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK. Sta. Familia Kupang in writing recount text? The objectives of the study are as follows: (1) To find out the types of grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK. Sta. Familia Kupang in writing recount text (2) To find out the most common types of grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK in writing recount text. The writer used descriptive method. This method is used to describe systematically a situation or area of interest factually and accurately. The subject of the study was the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia Kupang, especially grade VIIIA. There were 20 students taken as the sample of this study. In collecting the data, the writer used writing test. The writer asked the students to write a good recount text. The topics are “My Exciting Experience”, and “My Last Christmas”. The result of the test shows that grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia Kupang in writing recount text are misformation 110 (61%), omission 48 (26.8%), addition 13 (7.2%), and misordering 9 (5.0%). The most common grammatical error committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia Kupang in writing recount text is misformation. Seeing at the result of the research, the suggestion might be as follows: (1) The teacher should pay more attention on the students’ grammar when teaching especially in writing recount text, he/she should teach the students how to write a good text especially in writing recount text and give the students chance to practise. So the students should be focused on grammar especially in using tenses and the agreement between subject and verb. (2) The students should learn how to write a good text and focused on grammar especially tenses and tenses and the agreement between subject and verb.
