Abstract

In the present, every individual desires to become a pianist. Of course, to become a pianist, it is necessary to know the techniques for playing it. In addition, one needs to know the technique for playing various genres of songs, one of which is the bossa nova genre of song. In reality, not everyone is able to apply good techniques to playing various genres of songs, one of which is the bossa nova genre of song. This is also experienced by second semester students in the Music Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Widya Mandira Catholic University, who do not yet understand the technique of playing play the song. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research and uses the field research method. In addition, data collection techniques used in literature studies and field studies were observation and interviews. The problem of this research is how to apply the bossa nova genre technique to playing the piano in songs, sepanjang jalan kenangan, using the interpretation method for second semester students of Music Education Study Program. The research aims to identify and describe the application of the bossa nova genre to playing the piano. The findings revealed that the activities were carried out beginning with the initial stages of student recruitment, followed by fingering etudes in the form of scales and basic pattern exercises in playing bossa nova genre music and then applying them to model songs, part by part of the song, and then the entire song. At the end of this research, the three students performed a simple performance by playing or accompanying a singer singing a model song. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the research subjects can play songs sepanjangjalankenangan as a whole by using the bossa nova rhythm on a piano musical instrument through a training process that has been done quite well. There are several obstacles in the process of practicing playing a model song, especially regarding the use of chords. However, this can be overcome by using an interpretation method where the subject is given freedom in the use of chords or depending on the interpretation of the three research subjects.
