Abstract

The thesis entitled “The Effect of Managements of Character Building, School Habits, and Personal Competence to the Students’ Character of SMAK Giovanni Kupang” was written by Jacinta Soares, Reg. No. 8112192010MM, under the supervision of Dr. Dra. Ruminah, MM and Drs. Alfons Bunga Naen, M.Pd. The students’ character at SMAK Giovanni Kupang is characterized by moral, habits mirrored in personality and daily individual behavior. The character building at this school is estimated to be influenced by the management of character building, school habits and teachers’ personality competence or the whole school management. The management of school building comprises of planning, implementation, controlling and evaluation. This study aims to know 1) the respondents’ perception on the management of character building, school habits, teachers’ personality competence, and students’ character at SMAK Giovanni Kupang; 2) the significance of effect of the management of character building, school habits, and teachers’ personality competence, partially on the students’ character at SMAK Giovanni Kupang; 3) the significance of effect of the management of character building, school habits, and teachers’ personality competence, simultaneously on the students’ character at SMAK Giovanni Kupang The population in this study is 73 teachers and the sample is also 73 teachers (population sample). The data are collected using a questionnaire, intervierw and documentation study and then are analyzed applying descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of descriptive statistic analysis indicate that the respondents’ perception on the management of character building is categotized as good (69.99%), school habits is good (71.06%), teachers’ personality competence is good (70.26%) and students’ character is also good (70.21%). The results of t-test show that the management of character building (3.600, sig. 0.001 < 0.05), school habits (3.528, sig. 0.001 < 0.05) and teachers’ personality competence (2.822, sig. 0.006 < 0.05), partially have a positive and significant effect on students’ character. The results of F-test show that the three independent variables (59.407, sig. 0.000 < 0.05) simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on students’ character at SMAK Giovanni Kupang. The results of determination coefficient indicate that the three independent variables contribute 72.1% on the students’ character, while the rest of 27.9% is contributed by other variables excluded in this study. Based on these results, it is recommended to SMAK Giovanni Kupang to pay more attention to the management of character building, school habits, teachers’ personality competence, and students’ character, because these variables are proven to influence the high-low level of students’ character at SMAK Giovanni Kupang.
