Abstract

Tenun Ikat craft is a highly developed cultural heritage, and plays an important role in industrial growth for national development. East Nusa Tenggara is one of the provinces with distinctive and varied looms, representing each producing region, among others is Timor Tengah Utara regency, which belongs to the Dawan tribe on the island of Timor. Furthermore, the problems of Tenun Ikat are present as a matter of concern, such as the lack of interest of the younger generation in the means and infrastructure inadequate for its development. A direct study into the field of relevant matters was developed as a design concept to create a Dawan tribe Tenun Ikat craft center that could answer a range of potential and problems, with a vernacular architecture transformation design approach. So architecturally, it can also represent symbols or cultural identities, and Tenun Ikat craft itself as a wealth of region that should have been preserved and developed together.
