Abstract
One of the prominent elements in the good Friday procession in Larantuka is the wailing song of Maria, Mater Dolorosa, known as the O Vos Omnes song wich is sung singly bya female singer. The recitative style of this song is not executed well, especially in terms of the distribution of the breath that is not in accordance with the fragmention of the phrase and the irregular pronunciation of the verse. Based on these findings, this study aims to carry out the correct interpretation of the lyrics and melodies of O Vos Omnes singing and to find out the process of applying recitative singing styles and techniques to O Vos Omnes singing through imitation dan drill methods. The results of this study indicate that the process of applying the recitative singing style to O Vos Omnes singing through the imitation and drill method in the second and sixth semesters of music education is going well. In the final stage of this study, participants were able to sing the song O Vos Omnes inn a recitative style better. The research approach used is a qualitative approach, with field action research methods. The technique used in collecting data or observation, interviews and documentation. From the research, it can be concluded that in the process of applying the recitative singing style to O Vos Omnes singing, it is necessary to do breathing exercises, recitative etude exercises, so that participants can understand and apply the recitative singing style well when singing O Vos Omnes, even though it is not optimal. Although there are difficulties experienced by participants when stealing breaths, reciting poetry, but all of them can be overcome by the methods use, namely imitation and drill methods so that they can understand well the application of recitative singing style.
