Abstract

Jata kapa dance is one of the dances in Sikka Regency. This dance depicts a woman who is doing the process of spinning yarn, weaving until it becomes a very beautiful ikat cloth and is usually performed during traditional events, art festivals and competitions. This dance emerged because it was taken from the habit of the people of Sikka Regency, namely weaving. This dance is often staged but only uses original movements with floor patterns that seem monotonous. The main problem in this research is how to learn the dance moves of the jata kapa to the dance interest group at SMA Negeri 2 Maumere through the Imitation and Drill Method. The purpose of this study was to determine the learning process of the jata kapa of the Sikka ethnic group in dance students at SMA Negeri 2 Maumere. This study uses a qualitative approach with field action research methods and imitation and drill learning methods. Data collection techniques, in the form of library studies and field studies consisting of observations, interviews and documentation. The results showed that the process of learning the jata kapa of the Sikka ethnic group with the imitation and drill method in extra-curricular activities, went through 3 (three) stages, namely the initial stage of recruiting members of dance interests and determining the training schedule. The core stage explains the jata kapa, creative and original movement exercises using the gong waning musical instrument consisting of, waning host/big drum, waning anak/dodor, sa'ur/bamboo and gong and the final stage of the performance.dance jata kapa , there are difficulties in some of the movements experienced by the dance interest group at SMA Negeri 2 Maumere, but these problems can be overcome through the Imitation and Drill methods.
