Abstract
The underlying question in this research is how to think of high-ability students mathematics, mathematical ability students medium and low math ability students to solve problems on the subject of relations and function. The purpose of this study was to determine how the student's thinking in solving a math problem on the subject of relations and function. This research was conducted at the Catholic Junior High School Sta. Theresia Kupang with research subjects 3 students, consists of a student with a high mathematical ability, a student with moderate mathematical abilities, and a student with poor math skills. The data collection is done by given the matter related to relations and functions, and the results of the student’s work used as the basis for the implementation of in-depth interviews. The results of this study revealed that the thinking ability students math high and capable of mathematics are in a math problem on the subject of relations and function are deductive and inductive, while thinking ability students lowly mathematics to solve problems on the subject of relations and function is inductive.
