Abstract

This study is entitled "A Study on Gratitude terms of Tetun Fehan Dialect of Tetun Language spoken by people in Lasaen of Malaka Regency” This study was conducted to find the answers of two questions. (1). Are there any borrowed gratitude terms in Tetun Fehan Dialect of Tetun language spoken by people in Lasaen of Malaka Regency? (2) What are the gratitude strategies commonly used by the Tetun Fehan Dialect speaker? The method used in this study was the qualitative method. The subject of the study was native speaker of Tetun Language in Lasaen of Malaka Regency. The participants were ten people who were selected. They were asked to respond to the statement used of gratitude terms. The instrument used by the writer to compile data was the DCT (Discourse Completion Test). Next, the researcher made a DCT which was then given to the respondent. The researcher copied the data obtained after collecting the DCT, and then the researchers classified, qualified, and analyzed the data the gratitude terms used by the people in Lasaen. Based on the results of the research, there are various kinds of gratitude terms that the people of Lasaen village use when they receive something or get help, but not all of the gratitude terms are used, the most commonly used are Terima kasih wain, and Obrigado Barak. As the researcher has collected data, other gratitude terms are used only at certain times, such as traditional events and other events, but this does not mean that other gratitude terms are not important, they can all be used according to the context and by whom, people who address gratitude terms, thus they can choose which one is appropriate and suitable.
