Abstract

This study is entitled: An Analysis on Errors in Answering Questions in Classroom Interaction of the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 7 Kupang in the School Year 2014-2015. This study was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) Do the tenth grade students of SMA 7 Kupang in the school year 2014-2015 commit oral errors in answering questions in the classroom interaction? (2) What are the kinds of oral errors made by the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang in the school year 2014-2015 in answering questions in the classroom interaction ? (3) What are the most common oral errors made by the tenth grade students of SMA N 7 Kupang in the school year 2014-2015 in answering questions in classroom interaction. And The writer used surface strategy taxonomy to analyze the students’ errors in answering questions. The subject of this study was the 31 students of tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang in the school year 2014/2015. The instrument used in this study was the student’s speaking in answering questions given by the teacher in the classroom interaction. The result of this study shows that: (1) The tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang in the school year 2014/2015 make grammatical errors in answering questions. in facts the total types of errors in grammar are 53 times made by 31 students. (2)The types of grammatical errors in answering questions made by the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang in the school year 2014/2015 are omission, addition, misformation, misordering, (3)The students have a big problem with grammar, especially in answering questions. The most frequent errors in grammar are Omission 40 (75.47 %), Misformation 7 (13.20 %), Addition 4 (7.69 %) and Misordering 2 (3.77 %). Therefore the most common error in answering questions is Omission with 40 errors, ( 75.47 ). Based on the result of the study, the writer suggests that the English teacher should pay more attention in students’ structure and give much time for students to speak during the English class. In this occasion the teacher gives correction and explanation about the errors made by the students in answering questions. Meanwhile for the students they have to understand about structure and encourage themselves to speak English or practice it when class is going on or wherever they can.
