Abstract

This research is entitled Expressions of Emotion in SolorLamaholot Language. It is intended to answer the questions: (1) What are the morphosyntactic forms of expressions of emotions in SolorLamaholot language? (2) What meanings are expressed in the linguistic expressions of emotion of SolorLamaholot language in casual speech? The objectives of the study are the following: (1) To find out the morphosyntactic forms of expressions of emotions in SolorLamaholot language (2) To find out the meaning that are expressed in the linguistic expressions of emotion of Solor in Lamaholot language in casual speech. The study was conducted in East SolorSubdistrict, Bubu-Atagamu Village, East Flores Regency. In this study the writer used descriptive qualitative method. The instrument used in collecting the data was elicitation task. The writer chose 4 informants for collecting the data. The data were analyzed through some steps: reading the data in form of sentences in Lamaholot Language, translating the sentences, identifying, describing and explaining the meaning of expressions used in casual speech, and then doing concluding. In line with problem statement, the writer found (1) the expression of emotions inSolorLamaholotLanguage are in form of clauses. The clauses are two types: clause type 1 and clause type 2. The clause type 1 is formed by a subject pronoun, an intransitive verb as the predicate of the clause. While clause type 2 is constructed with the possessed body part noun as a subject of the clause and intransitive verb as the predicate of the clause. (2)It was also found the meaning of the expression that are divided into 9 categories. Each categories has generic and specific expressions. Category 1 refers to emotions of anger. Category 2 refers to feelings of love and desire. Category 3 refers to sadness of loss, being ignored, sympathy, and nostalgia. The expressions in Category 4 describe the feelings of joy and proud. Category 5 includes the expressions describing the feelings of fear or being scared and nervous. Category 6 includes the expression of shame. Category 7 includes the expressions describing the feelings of surprise. Category 8 includes the expressions describing the feelings of disappointment. Category 9 includes the expressions describing the feelings of disgust.In line with the significance and findings of the study some suggestions are proposed. (1) The expert of linguistics and other related subject are suggested to do further study to confirm the linguistics evidence of expressions of emotions in Solor dialect of Lamaholot language. (2) For the Students of English Education Department are suggested to design and to conduct other research focusing on other Morphosyntactic form of SolorLamaholot Language (3) The speakers of SolorLamaholot Language are suggested to appreciate more the Lamaholot Language especially Solor Dialect, by preserving the Lamaholot Language so it will be one the treasure and unique parts of culture from Eastern Flores.
