Abstract

This study is entitle “ A STUDY ON THE READING ABILITY OF THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPK FRATER MAUMERE IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2013/2014”. This study was conducted to answer the following question: (1) Are the eight grade students of SMPK Frater in the school year 2013/2014 able to read text? (2) what is the ability level of eight grade students of SMPK Frater in the school year 2013/2014 in reading text?. The objectives of the study are the following: (1) to find out whether the eight grade students of SMPK Frater Maumere in the school year 2013/2014 are able to read text or not.(2) to find out the ability level of the eight grade students of SMPK Frater Maumere in the school year 2013/2014 in reading text. Method used in this study was normative survey method. The total respondents were 20 students. The instrument used in gathering the needed data was test. The topics are a.) Holiday b.) A ball in a bedroom. The consisted of 10 items of multiple choice tests. The data is in this study is kuantitatife data. The result of analysis indicates that the eight grade students of SMPK Frater Maumere are able to understand the text they have read, and their level ability are as follows five(25%)students very good level of ability ranging from 8.6-9.5. twelve (60%) students got good level of ability ranging7.6-8.5.three(15%) students got fairly good level of ability ranging from 6.6- 7.5.The ability level of reading comprehension is “ Very good” there is no difficultly at work on the problems experienced in the better.
