Abstract

Education, especially for Mathematics, often considers as the most difficult lesson for children. Students consider Mathematics is the most frightened subject matter with unbreakable question to be answered. During my teaching practice in SMP Negeri 4 Kupang if showed that students dislike on Mathematics cause them to do not work the questions given and teacher teaching made students less interest on Mathematics. Based on the problem stated above, it is necessary to find a solution. Therefore, the writer thought that it is revired to conduct a classroom action research that aims to apply reciprocal teaching approachment in teaching to increase students understanding about the concept of round number, to involve students activity in learning to stimulate self – educted learning that centers on students, and to make teacher’s only as facilitators in learning. The main problem of the research is that: is the application of reciprocal teaching approachment able to increase the achievement on Round Number Count Operation Sub – Topic to the H class of seven grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Kupang? This classroom action research aims to describe the application of reciprocal teaching approachment on round number count operation sub – topic to the H class of seven grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Kupang. This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of five steps namely planning, action conducting, observation, reflection and revision. Data taken is the resemble of the students achievement data, observation of teacher’s ability data, observation of students activity data, interview and questionnaire. The result of the research showed that on the cycle I scores average gained 71,40 point from 32 students and scores average on the II cycle increased to become 82,65 point or increase 11,25 point. Classical fulfilment from cycle I to cycle II increased to become 25%. Scores average of observation of students activity also increased for each cycle, where on cycle I 2,4% and cycle II 3,50% on increased 1,1%. Scores average of teacher ability in managing teaching also increased 0,71%. From the data analysis showed that classically, there is increasing on students achievement during the teaching and learning process on the sound number count operation subject matter. Specifically, it can be shown trough : (1) teacher’s ability in managing teaching in applying reciprocal teaching approach ment is good.(2) Students activity in following teaching – learning process with using reciprocal teaching approachment is good. (3) Students responses forward teaching with using reciprocal teaching approacment is positive, and (4) Fulfilment of students achievement classically has reached the target needed. Based on the result of data analysis mentioned, it can be concluded that the application of reciprocal teaching approachment can increase students Mathematichs achievement and effective to be used to teach round number subject matter in H class of SMP Negeri 4 Kupang Academic Year 2011/2012.
