Abstract

This study is entitled “An Analysis of Translation Text from Indonesian Language into English of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang in School Year 2014/2015”. This study was conducted to answer the questions: (1) Are the translations of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang good or bad? and (2) What are the difficulties that might be faced by the eleventh grade students in translating text from Indonesian language in English? The objectives of the studies the following: ( 1) To find out whether the translation from Indonesian language into English made by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang good or bad, and (2) To find the difficulties that might be faced by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang in Translating from text Indonesian language into English. To answer the questions above, the writer applied descriptive method because it‟s the method that concerns with ascertaining the condition which prevails in a group of cases chosen for study and essentially a subject of this study was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang. There were twenty students as the subject of the study. In collecting data, the writer used the translation text. The text were five paragraph reading text consisting of twenty three sentences written in Indonesian sentences, no one of them translated with proper word choice and correct grammar and the content is kept as original is no students of them. Based on the result of data analysis there were many un-proper word choices and ungrammatical sentence constructed by students in translating. It means that translation of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang in school year 2014/2015 in translating text from Indonesian language into English is “Bad”. There were some difficulties by students in translating the text, they were students have the poor stock of vocabulary. It makes them cannot translate the text properly students also did not have good grammatical which students commit many ungrammatical sentences. It makes the meaning of the original text is distorted. Based on the result of the research, some suggestions are given by the writer as a follows: (1) English teacher of SMAN 4 Kupang is expected to pay the attention to the part of tense, word spelling and give some exercises for the students in translating a text from Indonesian language into English. (2) Regarding vocabulary, the students are expected to memorize English words which are related to the study and vocabulary of different fields.
