Abstract

The following were the problem statements 1) What is the description of competencies, work environment, workload, compensation, and employees’ job satisfaction at Kupang Municipality Regional Finance Office? 2) Do the competencies, work environment, workload, and compensation partially influence significantly the employees’ job satisfaction at Kupang Municipality Regional Finance Office? 3) Do the competencies, work environment, workload, and compensation simultaneously influence significantly the employees’ job satisfaction at Kupang Municipality Regional Finance Office? The sample in this research was 138 employees at Kupang Municipality Regional Finance Office. The results of descriptive statistic analysis showed that employees’ job satisfaction (65.347%), and compensation (67.12%) were categorized as good enough, while competencies (71.74%), work environment (74.60%), and workload (72.50%) were good. 2) The results of t-test showed that partially competencies (3.335, sig. 0,001 < 0.05), work environment with (1.999, sig 0,048 <0.05), workload (2.223, sig. 0,028 < 0.05), and compensation (2.139, sig. 0,034 < 0.05) had a significant effect on the employees’ job satisfaction at Kupang Municipality Regional Finance Office. The results of F-test showed that simultaneously competencies, work environment, workload and compensation (39.860, sig. 0,000 < 0.05) had a significant effect on the employees’ job satisfaction at Kupang Municipality Regional Finance Office. The results of determination coefficient indicated that competencies, work environment, workload and compensation contributed 54,5% on the employees’ job satisfaction at Kupang Municipality Regional Finance Office, while the rest of 45,5% was contributed by other variables excluded in this research. Based on these results, it is recommended to the management to raise the employees’ job satisfaction by providing opportunities for higher level of formal education and ongoing appropriate training, providing facilities and infrastructure to carry out their work, maintaining the work discipline, providing incentives in accordance with employees’ responsibilities, providing holidays to restore work morale, facilitating employee leave requests and transportation facilities to do their duties.
