Abstract

The title of this study is The Use of Pictures Series in Eighth Grade students’ Narrative Writing Process of SMP N 1 Kupang Tengah in Academic Year 2014/2015. This study was conducted to answer these following questions: 1) is the use of series of pictures effective in increasing students’ ability in writing narrative text at eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kupang Tengah? 2) To which degree is the use of series of imagine in increasing students’ ability in making narrative writing of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kupang Tengah? The objectives of the study were as follows: 1) to find out whether series of pictures is effective in increasing students’ ability in making narrative writing of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kupang Tengah in the Academic year 2014/2015. 2) To know the result of teaching writing using series pictures to improve students’ ability in making narrative writing at eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kupang Tengah. The research method used in this study is Classroom Action Research. The subject of the study is the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kupang Tengah, in the academic year of 2014/2015. The writer chose class VIII A there were 22 students (19 girls and 3 boys), but the students who participated in this study were 14 students, because 8 students were not present when the researcher gave pretest. The researcher uses some instruments in gathering the data they are Lesson plan and test. The writer gave a pretest based on a series of pictures the writer asked the students to write a narrative text, the result of pre test 8.14% (average) based on standard of measurement. After that the writer made first cycle and gave explanation about generic structure of narrative text, kinds of narrative text, and language futures then the writer gave series pictures to the students to do a narrative writing based on the pictures series. The first cycle was conducted. The result of post test 16,42% (excellent) based standard of measurement. The result of the study shows that the students’ teaching narrative writing by using pictures series. The students’ achievement in writing was improved, it was supported by the significant result of the pre-test was 8,14% and writing on the first cycle was 16,42%. There are some conclusions they are: 1) the use of series of pictures in narrative writing at eighth grade students’ was effective in increasing students ability in making narrative writing. 2) The degree is the use of series of pictures in increasing students’ ability in making narrative writing was excellent. Based on the result , there are some suggestions that the writer would like to give: 1) the students should be quiet when doing the writing narrative text and students have to develop their knowledge to get a better achievement in producing written text. 2) The English teacher should be able to develop the technique to teach the students in order to make the students interested in learning subject and the teacher should be able to manage the class and the time in order to make students be more active and involved to the activity and make it runs well. 3) For the next researcher it is realized that this study only gives an emphasis on the use of pictures series students’ ability narrative writing. Therefore, the next researcher who will conduct similar research based Classroom Action Research, the next research should make two cycles or more cycles to be well-prepared, so the research can run well.
