Abstract

This study is entitled “AN ANALYSIS ON DISTRACTORS OF THE MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST CONSTRUCTED BY THE ENGLISH TEACHER FOR THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 2 KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2016/2017”. It was conducted to answer the questions: Are the distractors of multiple choice test for the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Kupang good? the objectives of the study is as follow: To find out whether the distractors constructed by the English teacher at SMP NEGERI 2 Kupang are good or not? The writer used documentary method and descriptive method for this study. The subject of this study were 50 items of constructed multiple choice test. The results of this study are as follows: there are 26 items whose distractors were chosen by students which have precentage less than 5% and are not functioning properly. There are 24 items with good distractors. Based on these two findings, the writer concluded that the distractors made by teacher for the eighth grade students that the test is not good because the precentage of good distractors is less than 50%. Based on the result of the study, the writer suggests the following: 1. There are many items in the constructed multiple choice tesh that belong to distractors. Therefore teacher of English at the researched school must pay attention to the rules and ways in constructing distractors of multiple choice test. 2. The teacher of English at the researched school should rewrite or discard the test items which belong to constructed the distractors if the same multiple choice test will be used for other classes.
