Abstract
This study aims to determine: the existence of a significant effect of verbal ability on mathematics achievement subject of exponents and logarithms in class X SMA IPA 7 Kupang 2014/2015 academic year, there is significant from the numerical ability of the subject mathematics achievement exponents and logarithms in class X SMA IPA 7 Kupang 2014/2015 school year, as well as the significant influence of verbal and numerical ability on mathematics achievement subject of exponents and logarithms in class X SMA IPA 7 Kupang academic year2014/2015. This type of research is a quantitative study with statistical analysis techniques used are simple regression analysis and multiple regression. The population in this study were all class X SMA IPA 7 Kupang with research samples consisted of two classes are taken at random using a random cluster sampling technique (random class). Data collection techniques used tests of verbal ability, numerical ability and mathematics achievement that has been tested for validity and reliability. Before performing the statistical analysis, classical assumptions held prior testing which includes tests of normality, linearity and multicollinearity. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 16.0 for windows and manualanalysis as a comparison. The results showed that: (1) there was a significant effect of verbal ability on mathematics achievement subject of exponents and logarithms in class X SMA IPA 7 Kupang academic year 2014/2015. This was evidenced by the value of F = 8702 ≥ Ftable = 4.06, reject H0; (2) there was a significant effect of numerical ability on mathematics achievement subject of exponents and logarithms in class X SMA IPA 7 Kupang academic year 2014/2015. This was evidenced by the value of F = 13 776 ≥ Ftable = 4.06, reject H0; (3) there was a significant effect of verbal and numerical ability of the subject of mathematics achievement exponents and logarithms in class X SMA IPA 7 Kupang academic year 2014/2015. This was evidenced by the value of F = 9261 ≥ Ftable = 3.20, then reject H0.
