Abstract

This research focused on the difficulty of understanding the concept of students to solve mathematical problems on statistical material. This study was included in the qualitative descriptive study that took place in SMA 6 Kupang in May 2017 with subjects XI IPS 3. The method in this research is to solve problem testing and interview. Problem solving testing given to 37 students, then 3 (SD,MA,SS) will have the test back and then interviewed based on predefined criteria. Test and interviewed troubleshooting were perfomed twice due to the validity of the triangulation time data used to test. The result showed that of the three subjects SD,MA and SS class XI IPS in SMAN 6 Kupang, there is difficulty in solving the concept of students in mathematical problems on statistical material. These problems are found when the subjects is unable to reach some of the indicators, namely developing a necessary and sufficient condition of a concept, and to use, operate and choose the procedure or another operation.
