Abstract

Baumata spring is a spring that has functions for household needs, water industry, agriculture and tourism. Various activities can certainly threaten the function and ecosystems value in these spring and may also affect the water quality. This study aimed to analyze the diversity of macrozoobenthos as an indicator of water quality in Baumata springs in Kupang Regency. This research was conducted using the observation method by directly reviewing the site and determinated the points of plots laying on the study site by three plots were randomly generated. Sampling was done during the day, the macrozoobenthos search was done carefully on every plot in the waterbed as the habitat, both attached to the rock and found on sandy substrate by using a filter with a width of 0.5 mm eye strain. Physical environmental factors include temperature, pH, and the velocity, while the chemical nature include DO, BOD and COD. The result of the study of the diversity of macrozoobenthos obtained 12 types with three classes and six families. Macrozoobenthos type of class Gastropoda with Family of Thiaridae include Brotia testudinaria, Brotia costula, Thiara scabra, Melanoides punctata, Melanoides requentii, and Tarebia granifera. Family of Lymnaecidae namely Lymnaea columella, Family of Ampullariide namely Pomacea canaliculata, and Family of Viviparidae ie Viviparous javanicus. Macrozoobenthos types of Class Bivalvia with Family of Corbiculidae was Corbicula javanica and Corbicula moltkiana. Class Malacostraca with Family of Parathelphusidae was Parathelphusa convexa. The Diversity index (H') of plot I was 2,336, plot II was 2,39 and the plot III was 2,18. The highest abundance was in the gastropod class types Melanoides requentii by 8,33 and the lowest was Parathelphusa convexa by 1. Based on the value of Shannon Wiener diversity index (Sastrawijaya, 2000), the quality of water in springs Baumata was classified as good (uncontaminated).
