Abstract

The study was conducted in the Apren Lake, District Amarasi, Kupang Regency in June-August 2016. The purpose of this study was to determine the structure and abundance of phytoplankton in the Apren Lake, as well as to determine the condition of Apren Lake water quality in conjunction with the abundance of phytoplankton as a bioindicator in the waters of Apren Lake. The expected advantage of the reseach was to provide scientific information on the abundance of phytoplankton in the waters of Apren Lake and as an information especially for people in Apren village in the utilization and fish management in the Apren Lake , Amarasi District Amarasi, Kupang. The abundance of phytoplankton that were discovered during observations dominated by class Chlorophyceae. The genus Chlorella sp was found in almost all observation stations. Phytoplankton samples were taken using a bucket, bailer, glass bottles, and tea strainer, identified with the aid of a microscope and the abundance calculated by using the formula of I Nyoman Radiarta (2012). The results showed the phytoplankton composed of 5 classes, there were: Bacillariophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Euglenophyceae, Chlorophyceae, and Dinophyceae. The abundance of phytoplankton ranged from 16,42 ind / l to 22,92 ind/l. Shannon Diversity Index (H') at the station I to III were 1,1094, 1,0396, and 0,9641. Evenness index at the station I to III were 0,619167929, 0,534248717, and 0,41870331. Simpson dominance index (C) ranges from 0,453263 to 0,619828. Discriminant analysis to look at the relationship between the abundance of phytoplankton with the water parameters showed that nitrate, temperature, phosphate, silicate, pH, temperature and turbidity have an influence on the abundance of phytoplankton. It was necessary to take another sampling continuously at the same location in some depth and also the addition of other parameters in order to get more detail result.
