Abstract

The ability of the pavement structure to accept the load and have resistance is largely determined by the upper foundation layer, because it is a structure that directly receives loads from the surface layer. The ability of the foundation layer is determined by the composition of the aggregate grains, so that the planning of the aggregate mixture must be in accordance with the standards of the existing specifications (Lewen, 2008). Aggregates are the main components of road pavement containing 90-95% aggregate by weight percentage or 75-85% aggregate based on the percentage of volume. Thus the carrying capacity, durability and pavement quality of the road is largely determined by the nature of aggregate and the results of aggregate mixtures with other materials (Engineering Road-II, 2002). Material properties testing consists of three consecutive tests starting from sieve analysis, specific gravity testing and aggregate water absorption and abrasion testing. The material used in this test is coarse aggregate material that is 1½ "broken stone and broken stone ¾", while for fine aggregate material is white soil. From the results of the examination of the specific gravity of coarse aggregates and fine aggregates it can be obtained the average density of 2,570 x, the weight of the SSD (saturated surface dry) averaging 2,589 y, the average apparent density 2,622 z and the effective density 2,596. The effective density value is used to determine the zero line of the air cavity (Zero Air Void) in the compaction graph. From the experimental results, the CBR density and value of variations in broken stone and white soil composition shows that the mixture of class A aggregate compositions will produce varying moisture content and dry weight, CBR values will increase with the addition of 2% broken stone material, 5 % and 10% and subtracting white soil material by 2%, 5% and 10% and the CBR value will decrease if the crushed stone material is reduced by 2% and white soil material is added by 2%.
