Abstract
Math is a subject that plays an important role but is still considered difficult to understand by students . Therefore , in the process of learning mathematics required methods or teaching strategies which are varied means in the use of learning methods should not be the same for all subjects . Math game strategy is one that involves students active role where this strategy combines learning and fun. This strategy is very suitable to be applied in the study of mathematics as it can communicate the content to the students. It can increase the motivation of students to study and master the subject matter of mathematics so that will improve students' mathematics achievement. Based on the description above, the issue in this study is formulated as follows: "whether there are differences in mathematics achievement using math games and learning strategies of conventional sub subject of integer arithmetic operations on class VII student of SMP Negeri 16 Kupang? "To answer these questions, researchers used an experimental research which is a type of research that was conducted to determine the extent to which differences in mathematics achievement using math game strategy. Population in this research that all students in the class vii of SMP Negeri 16 Kupang in the academic year of 2013/2014 consisting of 355 people while the technique of sampling was random where the researchers randomly took 30 first grade students as a treatment of strategy of game math class and 30 students of second class as the control classroom using conventional strategy. Analysis prerequisite test used in this study is the homogeneity test using the F test, test for normality using KolmogorovSmirnov test and hypothesis testing using the t test. Based on the analysis of data by using test posstest Independent Samples T Test in SPSS 16.0 for windows obtained value t count > t table (3.839 > 2.002) and manual data analysis results obtained t count > t table (3.500 > 2.002 ). From the analysis of the data, the hypothesis is ‘Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected’ or it can be concluded that ' There are differences in mathematics achievement by using math games strategy and learning conventional strategy on sub subject of integer arithmetic operations on class of VII of SMP Negeri 16 Kupang .
