Abstract

This research is classified as descriptive research using a qualitative approach. It aims to describe the creative thinking ability of students when solving mathematical problems. It has been done at one of the state junior high schools on an academic year of 2018/2019 in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, NTT. A total of three seventh grade students were selected to become the subjects of this research. Those three students were selected based on their score in a midterm test by a recommendation of their mathematics teacher. Those three students were consisted of one student who was a high achiever, one student who was a mediumn achiever, and one student who was a low achiever. The assessment of creative thinking ability of students was based on the ability of students when solving three mathematical problems reviewing three indicators of creative thinking according to Siswono. The collected data were the test results and the interview results of each three students. The steps of data analysis generally were data reduction, data representation, and conclusion. The check of data validation was carried out using technique triangulation. The results showed that the student who was a high achiever was creative in solving mathematical problems, while the students who were categorized as medium and low achievers were pretty creative in solving mathematical problems.
