Abstract
This research is a case study qualitative research that aims to describe students' mistakes made in solving mathematical problems in material relations and functions. This research was conducted at SMPK St. Yoseph Naikoten Kupang Academic Year 2018/2019 even semester in class VIIIB with 30 students. The subjects in this study were 3 students with criteria: (1) Students who made the most mistakes in solving problems; and (2) Errors or variations in errors made by students, in the form of facts, concepts, operations, and principles. The interview data is used as a comparison of the results of solving problem solving problems. Data about the errors of each subject were obtained from the results of solving the problem solving problems of students analyzed to get errors in solving questions in the material relations and functions which included fact errors, conceptual errors, operating errors, and principle errors. The results obtained in this study are: 1) False Facts. The percentage of students who make a fact error is 50% with the specification of errors as follows: (a) Students are wrong in placing symbols on the results of equation elimination, (b) Students are wrong in placing symbols in determining the value of, and (c) Students are wrong in writing symbols on the results of similar tribal separation. 2) Concept Error. the percentage of students making concept errors is 10% with the specifications of the errors as follows: (a) Students incorrectly state the function formula used, (b) Students incorrectly apply the concept in determining the value of, and (c) Students incorrectly apply the concept in determining the value . 3) Operation Errors. The percentage of students who make an operating error is 30% with the specifications of the errors as follows: (a) Students miscalculate the results of elimination, and (b) Students incorrectly in calculating the value of. 4) Error Principle. The percentage of students who make an operating error is 50% with the specifications of the errors as follows (a) Students do not write down the questions and know the questions, (b) Students do not conclude the results of the questions, c) Students incorrectly apply the steps in determining the value of, (d ) Students incorrectly apply steps in determining one of the equations, and also (c) Students solve questions with unstructured steps.
