Abstract

This study is entitle “Using Animated Picture to Teach Speaking”. The research questions are: 1) is the use of animated pictures in teaching speaking can improve vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation of the Eleventh Grade Students of Sma Negeri Keberbakatan Olahraga Flobamorata Kupang?, 2) What is the speaking ability level of the Eleventh Students of Sma Negeri Keberbakatan Olahraga Flobamorata Kupang after being taught by using animated pictures. The objectives are: 1) to find whether the use of animated pictures can improve their vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation in teaching speaking to the Eleventh Grade Students of Sma Negeri Keberbakatan Olahraga Flobamorata Kupang, 2) To find out the speaking ability level of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri Keberbakatan Olahraga Flobamorata Kupang after being taught by using animated pictures. The study used class action research (CAR) as research design. The participants of the research were XI science 2 students of a senior high school in Kupang in school year 2021/2022. The writer took one class as a sample consisting of 7 students. The data was obtained by implementing an action research consisting of two cycles. The result of the study showed that average score of students’ posttest 1 is 17, 92 and the posttest 2 is 20, 35. This means that there was in improvement from the student speaking ability after teaching using animated picture. Students were improved especially in areas of pronunciation and fluency. The average score shows that teaching speaking using animated picture is effective to improve speaking ability for the students.
