Abstract

The process of learning mathematics in class so far have been centered on the teacher. It can be seen from the information from one of the teachers at SMP Negeri 3 Kupang, that in the process of learning in the classroom, students are less active in asking as well as in independent tasks by the teacher. Therefore, researcher try to apply the Visual Auditory Kinestetik (VAK) learning model, which encourages of students reasoning capability and activity, which is expected to improve the student achievement. The purpose of this research was to describe the VAK learning model application that could improve student achievement class VIIC semester I from SMP Negeri 9 Kupang on the subject of sub-whole numbers arithmetic operations on the academic year 2013/2014. In this research, researcher conducted a Classroom Action Research (CAR) to know the increase of mathematics learning results in students through the implementation of VAK learning models. The research was implemented in 2 (two) cycles. Data was taken in the form of student learning outcomes data, the data of observation on the ability of teachers manage the learning, a data observations of student activities, interviews, and questionnaire responses of students. The results showed that on the average value of the first cycle obtained at 69.20 from 25 students and the average value of the second cycle to be increased by 74.60 or increase about 5.40. The classical completeness of the first cycle to the second cycle increased by 28%. The average score of the observation of student activity also increased for every cycle, where the cycle I of 2.77 and 3.31 for the second cycle or an increase of 0.54. The average score of the observation of the ability of teachers to manage learning also increased by 0.50. Based on the results of the data analysis indicate that an increase in student learning result in the classical during the learning process took place on materials whole numbers arithmatic operations, (1) The ability of teachers to manage the learning by implementing VAK is good, (2) The activity of students to following the learning process in the implemented the VAK learning model that is good, (3) The response of students towards learning that implement VAK learning model is a positive. And (4) the thoroughness of student learning result in the classical had reached its intended target. Based on the result of analysis of these data it can be concluded that, the implementation of VAK learning model can improve student achievement and effectively used to teach the subject of sub whole numbers arithmetic operations on students class VIIC semester I at SMP Negeri 9 Kupang on academic year 2013/2014
