Abstract

The Lanudal road section is located in East Penfui Village, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency. This road section is the main link to the Catholic University of Widya Mandira Kupang and the Kupang Air Force Naval Aviation Center. Considering that Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang and the Kupang Air Force Naval Aviation Center are public facilities, these roads must be in good condition so as to provide comfort and safety for road users. Surface Distress Index (SDI) method was used in this study with the aim of finding out what types of damage are, how much the level of road damage is and what is the proper form of handling for Lanudal roads. Data taken at the survey location is in the form of pavement surface condition data such as (layout, condition or condition, % settlement and % filling) crack data such as (crack type, crack width and crack area %) other damage data such as (number of holes, size potholes, ruts and edge damage) as well as road shoulder data, side channel and others such as ( road shoulder condition, road shoulder surface, side channel condition, slope and sidewalk damage). The types of damage found on the Lanudal road with a length of 1200 meters are divided into 7 segments, namely holes, cracks, edge damage, crushed surface conditions and rough surface composition. Based on the results of calculations using the SDI method, the level of road damage for moderate damage is 66.45% for lightly damaged roads 0% and 33.22% for heavily damaged roads. Therefore, the form of handling that can be carried out for the Lanudal road section is that roads that experience moderate damage must be carried out periodic maintenance and roads that are heavily damaged must be rehabilitated.
