Abstract

The Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region XV as the Central Technical Implementation Unit (CTIU) under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, which has been in the region for 2 years of its existence, has not been able to show maximum performance in carrying out the tasks and functions described in the Key Performance Indicators (IKU). The purpose of this study is to describe and test work motivation and performance as well as the role of work motivation as a mediator of the factors that affect performance in Region XV Higher Education Service Institutions. The sample in this study amounted to 57 respondents. This type of research is quantitative research. The types of data used are primary data and secondary data, data analysis techniques are descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis show that the description of: 1). The leadership style at LLDIKTI Region XV is not good, 2). Organizational commitment, work environment, and performance at LLDIKTI Region XV are good; and 3). Work motivation at LLDIKTI Region XV is quite good. The results of inferential statistical analysis show: 1). Leadership style and work environment have a significant effect on work motivation. Meanwhile, organizational commitment has no significant effect on work motivation; 2). Leadership style and work motivation have no significant effect on performance. While organizational commitment and work environment have a significant effect on performance; 3). Work motivation cannot mediate the effect of leadership style, organizational commitment and work environment on performance in LLDIKTI Region XV. The contribution of leadership style, organizational commitment and work environment to work motivation is 88.40% and the remaining 11.60% is explained by other factors not examined in this study. While the contribution of leadership style, organizational commitment, work environment and work motivation to performance is 89.10%, and the remaining 10.90% is explained by other factors not examined in this study. Based on the results of this study, it can be suggested to the Head of LLDIKTI Region XV to develop a transformational leadership style through visionary leadership to bring the organization and employees moving forward, creating, identifying and implementing change plans that are aligned with the goals of the institution. Researchers who will research at LLDIKTI Region XV would be able to choose variables other than those that have been studied in this study.
