Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease with periodic fever caused by plasmodium parasites (including Protozoa) and transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes. Traditional medicines are ingredients or natural ingredients derived from plants which have been used for generations for the treatment of various types of diseases based on experience. This study aims to determine the understanding of the Oekopa society about malaria, find out which plants are used as malaria medicine and find out how to mix these plants into traditional antimalarial medicines. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, which examines local culture or wisdom in the treatment of malaria. Data collection techniques through interviews, observation, documentation, and literature study. To calculate each number of plants in the treatment of malaria in value with the relative mention frequency of quotations (RFC). The research stages used were using informant data, local knowledge about malaria, local knowledge about malaria and local knowledge about malaria medicinal plants used by the people of Oekopa Village. There are 18 types of plants used as malaria drugs in Oekopa Village, including Carica papaya, Andrographis paniculata, Momordica Sp, Moringa oleifera, Phyllanthus lingustrina, Psidium gaujava, Strychonus lucida, Swietenia mahagoni, Alstonia scholaris, Acorus calamus, Manihot esculanta crantz, Curcuma zanthorrhiza, Musa sp, Jatropa gossypiifolia, Calotropis gigantea, Solanum lycopersicum, Sesbania grandiflora. The bioactive compounds contained in these plants have the ability to act as antiplasmodials with their respective mechanisms and methods of action.
