Abstract
The ja'i laba para dance is part of the cultural heritage of the Ngada people, especially in So'a District, which is an important element in various traditional ceremonies, including the rasi ngadhu ceremony. This research focuses on two main questions, namely (1) how is the process of the rasi ngadhu ceremony in Piga Village, So'a District, Ngada Regency? (2) What is the aesthetic symbolism contained in the ja'i laba para dance during the rasi ngadhu ceremony in the Piga Village Community, So'a District, Ngada Regency? The objectives of this study were (1) to analyze the process of ja'i laba para dance ceremony in rasi ngadhu ceremony in So'a Sub-district, Ngada Regency. (2) To understand the symbolism and aesthetic aspects of ja'i laba para dance in rasi ngadhu ceremony in Piga Village Community, So'a Sub-district, Ngada Regency. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach using naturalistic and ethnographic methods. Data collection techniques involved observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of two mosalaki who have knowledge about ja'i laba para. The research steps included determining informants, conducting interviews, preparing questions, documentation, and analyzing interview results. The results showed that ja'i laba para dance in the rasi ngadhu ceremony has aesthetic value and symbolism through the dance movements. The stages in the rasi ngadhu ceremony process include papa enga (notification), lo rae (making bonfire), and ka saka pete (eating bamboo rice).The ceremony also involves dance as a means of entertainment. The symbolism of the ja'i laba para dance movements is analyzed through observation of the use of the elements of space and small movement volumes, displacement of places, and the formation of trajectories with repetitive step patterns, as well as the light, floating, and flowing quality of the hands.
