Abstract

This study is entitled “Using Cake Application to Improve the Speaking Skills of EFL Students”. It aims to answer the following questions; 1. Is the Cake application able to help EFL students improving their speaking skill? 2. How is Cake application used to improve speaking skill of EFL students? The objectives of this research are; 1. To find out if Cake application is used to improve speaking skill of EFL students. 2. To find out how Cake application is used to improve speaking skill of EFL students. The researcher used the quasi-experimental design using quantitative approach in analyzing the data. The instrument used was speaking test which contain pre-test, treatment, observation, and post-test. The population was the seventh-grade students of SMPK Rosa Mystica Kupang. The total number of the students were 16 students. The research findings indicated that the use of Cake application in teaching speaking was giving significance effect to the students’ speaking ability. It was proved by the average score of students’ speaking ability of pre-test was 68,25 then improve to be 86,1 in post-test. The differences between X1 and X2 was 1,1, the D2 was 16,1, and the standard of the differences (SD) was 15,3. It means that there was an improvement by using cake application to improve the speaking skill of the students. The finding and discussion about how Cake application can be used to improve students’ speaking skills showed that the Cake application was able to improve students’ speaking abilities with various videos presented in the application and also by practicing daily conversation presented in the application. To improve their speaking skills, students can practice speaking by using the speaking test features found in the Cake application.
