Abstract
The management of bamboo flute music at SMAN Sasitamean has been started since early 2015 and continues to be maintained and preserved until now as one of the traditional arts besides the bidu dance and likurai dance. Initially, this bamboo flute was used as a studio by two schools, namely a combination of SMAN Sasitamean and SMPN 2 Malaka Tengah. However, over time this activity was no longer running because there was no cooperation between the two schools, namely SMAN Sasitamean and SMPN 2 Malaka Tengah, so this studio slowly began to disappear. Seeing the studio that was slowly starting to disappear, the principal of SMAN Sasitamean wanted this activity to be made into an extracurricular activity at the school so that the bamboo flute would continue to be maintained and preserved so that it would not disappear from the community, young people, and school children. Therefore, this bamboo flute extracurricular activity still continues to survive until now. This study examines the management and development of bamboo flute music at SMAN Sasitamean, using qualitative research methods and observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study stated that the management and development of bamboo flutes from 2015 to 2024 went well even though there were several obstacles that made this flute stop running, but with the hard work of the principal and his staff, this bamboo flute continued to run and develop at SMAN Sasitamean as one of the traditional arts made in an extracurricular activity so that it does not become extinct. This bamboo flute extracurricular activity is an activity carried out to increase students' insight and interest in traditional music. The management of bamboo flute music in schools is said to be formal because there is already a structured organization and has implemented good management functions. This bamboo flute extracurricular activity has just started again after a two-year hiatus due to Covid and the absence of a trainer, so in 2024 after the procurement of new equipment, the practice will run normally. The researcher's suggestion for this extracurricular activity is to practice a lot so that they can perform bamboo flutes at various events and can channel this traditional music and create studios starting from junior high and high school students so that traditional music is increasingly qualified in the midst of modern music competition.
