Abstract
Noela PCS Alves 2024, The Role of Traditional Elders as Leaders in the Change of Traditional Guardian Ceremony (Hili Matamusan) of the Uma Bei Leki Tribe in Lakekun Barat Village, Kobalima District, Malacca Regency Talking about matamusan is closely related to the marriage pattern adopted by the people of Malacca with the "Wesei Wehali" culture , where the Bei Leki tribe lives, namely a matrilineal marriage pattern. Usually this tradition is carried out through negotiations to be agreed upon with the families of both parties and cannot be separated from the role of traditional leaders , namely Fukun, Dato and Renu or ordinary people who are not of noble descent. The aim of this research is to explain the role in the change of guardian ceremony through custom ( Hili Matamusan ) in the Uma Bei Leki Tribe in the Matrilineal Fohorua culture in Lakekun Barat Village, Kobalima District, Malacca Regency and to explain what factors influence the implementation of the traditional elder role as leader in the customary change of guardian ceremony ( Hili Matamusan ) in the Uma Bei Leki Tribe in the Matrilineal Fohorua culture in Lakekun Barat Village, Kobalima District, Malacca Regency. This research uses qualitative research, based on the results of interviews and direct observations in the field and uses data collection techniques carried out along with interviews with traditional leaders. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and concept discovery and drawing conclusions . The leader's role is as an intermediary, acting as a shepherd and as a supervisor of people, as a leader of ritual ceremonies, the role of the leader is taking care of traditional ceremonies, while maintaining the welfare of the community, providing advice to the community, solving problems that occur in the community. The implementation of the Matamusan custom in the traditions of the West Malacca Lakekun community in particular must go through several stages, namely, (1) Preparation stage, (2) Implementation stage and, (3) Final stage. Factors that influence the implementation of the traditional role of elders as leaders in the guardian change ceremony through custom ( Hili Matamusan ) in the Uma Bei Leki Tribe in the Matrilineal Fohorua culture in West Lakekun Village, Kobalima District, Malaka Regency, namely supporting factors consisting of trust in traditional elders and culture .
