Abstract

This research is titled “The Role of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in Enhancing Economic Empowerment of the Community in Baumata Utara Village, Taebenu District, Kupang Regency.” To explain the main issues addressed in the title, the study is based on the theory of the importance of community empowerment, considering that villages have often been perceived as underdeveloped and underutilized. The objective of this study is to understand how BUMDes contributes to empowering rural communities through various economic programs. This research applies a qualitative descriptive method, using data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that BUMDes plays a strategic role in enhancing the economic empowerment of the community in Baumata Utara Village. Through various business programs, BUMDes significantly supports poverty reduction and improves local economic conditions. The village's abundant natural resources are managed effectively to increase economic growth and community welfare. Supporting factors such as human resources and infrastructure also play an essential role in economic development. Flagship programs like Taman Eden have strengthened food security and household economic independence through home gardening and environmentally friendly farming. Training in MSMEs and business planning has improved the professionalism of local entrepreneurs. The GEDSI (Gender, Disability, and Social Inclusion) approach has encouraged the participation of vulnerable groups in the village economy. Business partnerships and access to capital have boosted social solidarity and enterprise growth. Initiatives for clean water management and renewable energy serve as tangible steps toward building a self-reliant and sustainable village. However, some inhibiting factors were identified, including limited human resources and insufficient capital support, which hinder optimal program implementation and business management within BUMDes.
