Abstract
This study is a qualitative descriptive study with the aim of knowing and describing students' difficulties in solving mathematical story problems on fractional arithmetic operations. The subjects in this study were 27 students of class VII F of SMP Katolik Santa Theresia "Disamakan" Kupang. From the results of the fractional story problem test, the researcher chose 3 subjects who made mistakes in solving the problems. Data collection was carried out through written tests and interviews. Data analysis carried out included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicated that students experienced difficulties, including students being unable to solve problems correctly, being less able to sequence the steps of the solution correctly, being unable to change story problems into mathematical models, difficulties in arithmetic skills, and difficulties in making conclusions. Therefore, the difficulties of the subjects in solving story problems on the fractional arithmetic operation material were difficulties in using concepts, difficulties in using principles, and difficulties in solving verbal problems.
