Abstract
Paru dheko is a form of marriage carried out by couples without the blessing of the family and outside the applicable customary procedures, which is often triggered by economic factors, pregnancy outside of marriage, or differences in social status. This study aims to examine the phenomenon of paru dheko or elopement that is still widespread in the community of Nabe Village, Maukaro District, Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that paru dheko not only has an impact on the individuals involved, but also causes social and cultural conflicts in society. In the context of family guidance and counseling, this phenomenon has significant implications. Family counselors are expected to be able to facilitate understanding and resolution of conflicts within the family by paying attention to local cultural values, as well as helping individuals internalize religious values, responsibility, morality, loyalty, and togetherness in the family. This study recommends the importance of strengthening the role of traditional leaders and guidance and counseling services in efforts to prevent and handle paru dheko cases more constructively. Based on the results of this study, the researcher provides suggestions to several parties, namely a) The Nabe Village community understands the importance of marriage because marriage not only binds the two parties who are married, but also establishes relationships between each family member. b) Traditional leaders to re-implement customary sanctions against paru dheko marriages in accordance with Ende Lio customs and must strengthen the rules regarding paru dheko marriages.
