Abstract

Based Instruction learning model in mathematics learning. This writing also aims to find out how to use the Problem Based Instruction (PBI) learning model in mathematics learning. Problem Based Instruction is a learning strategy that starts with a problem,then students deepen their knowledge of what they know to solve the problem. Whereas mathematics learning is a process or activity of mathematic’s teacher to their students, which contains the teacher's efforts to create climate and services for students' diverse abilities, potentials, talents, interests and needs for mathematics so that optimal interaction between the teacher and students occurs in studying the mathematics. PBI consists of five main steps starting with the teacher introducing students to the problem situation and ending with an analysis presentation of the students' work. The PBI assessment form in mathematics learning consists of evaluating student performance and portfolios. Performance appraisal is carried out when students conduct discussions and presentations namely: student involvement and activity in groups, student participation during the learning process. Whereas he result of assesment is based on student’s work such as problem solving worksheets and assignment sheets or exercises.
