Abstract

With the statement of the problem stated above the study was aimed at finding the following objectives: (1) to find out the generic structure and language features of narrative text composed by the high school student's Kupang in the academic year 2020/2021. (2) To find out the difficulty in developing the generic structure of the narrative text of the high school students in Kupang in the academic year 2020/2021 in writing narrative text. The subject of this study was the 15 students of the eleventh grade of students of SMA Muhamadiyah Kupang, especially in science class. The method applied in this study was the descriptive method and the instrument used was the writing task. The students chose to write the text based on their own topic. The rubric assessment of narrative text writing used by the writer in analyzing the data was the generic structure and language features in narrative text. The results of data analysis showed that; there were 2, students who had difficulty in generic structure. Furthermore there were 15, students who had difficulty in the language features. Based on this result of this study the following was the suggestions for the teacher and students: The teacher should teach the students how to write a good text especially in narrative text and give the students chance to practice. Grammar especially in using tenses and subject-verb agreement. For students: the students should learn how to write a good text and focus on structures grammar especially tenses and subject-verb agreement.
